Electricity For Life

The Zurich University Hospital and Switzerland's biggest telecoms provider Swisscom launched the campaign "electricity for life". 13 public phone booths owned by Swisscom in Zurich's main shopping mile will be equipped with Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).

According to the hospital, one to two people die in Zurich's shopping mile each year from sudden cardiac death. In the whole of Switzerland, 25 people die in public spaces each year from sudden cardiac death.

AEDs are easy to use and can safe lives by shocking the heart back to a normal rhythm.

The campaign wants to emphasize the necessity for AEDs in public spaces. It seems to work: With regard to the Euro 08 (European Football/Soccer Championship) taking place in Switzerland and Austria, the Swiss Federal Railways will install devices in Zurich main station. It is Switzerland's biggest railway station.
