New Hope For LQT3 Patients
The medication Ranexa (ranolazine) is used for the treatment of patients suffering of chronic angina who have not achieved an adequate response with otherantianginal drugs.
Researchers now found out that ranolazine significantly shortens the QT-intervall in patients with type 3 of long-QT syndrome (LQT3).

Shortening the QT-intervall in LQT3 patients with drugs is a possible approach to find a cure for this specific form only. LQT3 is the most aggresive form and the less responsive to the common Beta blocker therapy.
The question science and medicine have to answer now is whether the shortening with ranolazine is only superficial on the ECG or whether it eliminates the risks for lethal arrhythmia completely. It is understood that the longer the prolongation of the QT-intervall, the higher the risk for syncope.
